Dolomites – photography trip 2023 – Part 2
The next morning at dawn, we went to Cinque Torri. This is another famous and popular spot in the Dolomites, consisting of five rock formations:
– Torre Grande
– Torre Seconda
– Torre Terza
– Torre Quarta
– Torre Inglese
There is a parking lot just below the cliffs. From there we continued on foot. We arrived a little later than the optimum time, so we had to rush a little on the way up. The weather was absolutely spectacular, cloudy, misty, and beautiful. Cinque Torri at sunrise: in daylight, up close, from a distance, in panoramic view, and in a tiny planet panorama.
Sunrise was also spectacular in the distant mountains.
The surrounding mountains and peaks were wrapped in a mystical fog.
There were a few minutes when the sun’s rays made their way through the clouds.
I played around a bit with short and long exposures, then we slowly started making our way back down.
On our way to the next location, we had to stop – if I’m not mistaken- the Cadini di Misurina mountain group was shrouded in fog in the distance.
Before heading to our afternoon location, we wanted to grab lunch. We aimed for Cortina, planning to find a restaurant there. However, we ran into a rather significant issue, we hadn’t accounted for the Italian siesta, which, as it turns out, they take very seriously. I don’t remember the exact hours, but it was something like 11 AM to 3 PM. The bottom line was that everything was closed. We checked google for open restaurants, but when we arrived, all 8 out of 8 were closed. The same went for the stores. I don’t even remember exactly how we solved it. We hadn’t packed any food for the day since we had planned to eat along the way. I vaguely recall that, after much difficulty, we finally found a store where we managed to buy something for sandwiches.
Our final planned stop was Tre Cime. On the way there, we stopped by Lago Antorno for lunch. This lake is just a few kilometers from Tre Cime, which can be reached by passing through a toll gate. The lake itself is only a few hundred meters from the gate. After much deliberation, we had to abandon our plan to hike up to Tre Cime due to a technical issue. Despite this, the weather remained in our favor, with a stunning mix of fog and clouds. We tried to make the most of it.
I think this day was the best in terms of lighting and the photos we took. The Dolomites are simply beautiful, especially with this kind of weather. Our accommodation was clean, tasteful, and well-equipped. I would definitely recommend it to others. After the Slovenian landscape, the Dolomites have also become one of my favorites. Overall, I really enjoyed the trip.
