This exploratory trip was inspired by a water lily I had previously seen at one of the Dráva’s oxbow lakes. I wanted to find a spot where water lilies were blooming in greater numbers. Since I didn’t have any specific data on where to find them, I browsed the map and put together a list of a few lakes and oxbows. On a suitable day, I set out. The first stop was Lake Matty. Although I didn’t find any water lilies there, I thought the man-made lake was still worth a photo.
After a completely fruitless stop, I headed to the Bresztik oxbow. Still no blooming water lilies, but I found other interesting subjects to shoot.
Next, I continued to the nearby Vájás Lake, which is actually a naturally formed oxbow lake.
Just beyond it, the Dráva River itself starts winding again.
I had one or two more locations on my list, but by then I was hungry, and it seemed like the trip wasn’t going to fulfill its original purpose. So I changed plans and headed toward Orfű. To be continued in the next part.
