At dawn, after an early departure, we crossed the Italian border. Our original plan was to start the day at the Mangart Pass for sunrise. However, we made a small mistake, only upon reaching the foot of the mountain did we discover that the road leading up had already been closed for the autumn season. We hadn’t come across this information while planning, so we were only confronted with it at the toll gate.
After a quick change of plans, we headed to Lago del Predil, a stunning lake located southeast of Tarvisio in the Julian Alps. Tarvisio itself is situated near the tri-border of Italy, Austria, and Slovenia.
On the eastern side of the lake, we found a small, unnamed waterfall.
On the western side, across the road, lies the Fiorino Waterfall.
As time passed, the fog began to thin in some areas, allowing me to explore and capture aerial shots from above.
Since we had several destinations planned for the day, we continued our journey to ensure we had enough time at each location. We took the SS 203 road towards our next stop, but we simply had to pull over for a few photos. The clouds and mist drifting over the Koritnica Valley, nestled between Briceljk and Rombon, created an incredible scene.
I also managed to capture a quick timelapse, and here are a few shots from it.
Alongside the 203 road, the Koritnica Stream flows with crystal-clear water. In this beautiful setting we took photos and had lunch.
A bit later, we made another brief detour to check out the Boka Waterfall.
For the afternoon, our main plan was to hike to Kozjak Waterfall, located in Triglav National Park. After parking the car, we set off on foot, the waterfall was about 1.5 km away. The trail took us past the Isonzo River (Soča), whose waters are an intense turquoise blue.
The hike was easy, with minimal elevation gain. The waterfall itself is hidden in a narrow gorge, surrounded by towering rock walls. A wooden walkway with railings guides visitors through the gorge, leading right up to the falls.
The water here was also crystal clear, and the scenery was absolutely stunning. This was where the others really got into their photography groove, spending hours finding the best angles and compositions. By the end of the day, I was exhausted. I took a few more shots of the stream and then just relaxed, soaking in the beauty of the place.
Once we had all captured everything we wanted, we slowly made our way back to our accommodation. In the next part, I’ll share some photos from the last day of our trip.
